The Newport Shields Awards Night was last night. Jay Gowell reaped a heck of alot of trophies. Here's the list:

WEEKEND SERIES

1st Place : Sean Cassedy Memorial Trophy ­ Spring Series

1st Place : Toland Memorial Cup ­ Summer Series

3rd Place : Kendall Trophy ­ Fall Series

1st Place : Aloha Cup (non-spinnaker series)

Overall Weekend Winner trophy

Individual 1st place trophy (Weds night)

The Big One: The Manice Trophy: Overall Fleet Champion

Earlier in the season Jay won 1st place the Shields Class in the Coastal Living Newport Regatta hosted by Sail Newport, and won 2nd place in the Winslow Regatta hosted by the Coaster's Harbor Navy Yacht Club.

He did not fare so well in the Wednesday night series, finishing 10th for the season out of 40 registered boats; but with my weekend results it was good enough to earn me the Overall Fleet Champion Award. Other CYC members competing in the Wednesday night series were Tom Hirsch who finished 11th, and Rob Salk who finished 15th.

Jay says "Those Newport guys have nothing on us Jamestowners".
