2017 Parsons Cup

Photos & article submitted by Diane Gooding

This past weekend saw the evolution of the Parsons Cup Tournament tradition carry on, amidst large earth-moving equipment and a sizable hole in the ground where the foundation for the new Hut will be.

Eighteen teams signed up for the Round Robin format, in which the top teams in each of the four flights advanced to Sunday’s semi-finals and finals.  The weekend’s tournament was characterized (as always) by wonderful sportsmanship, a high level of play, and good cheer all around from participants and spectators alike.

Rob Parker did an amazing job of matching partners to ensure that the teams were well balanced, and outcomes were unpredictable.  From all of us who participated, our thanks goes to Rob for his time and commitment to CYC paddle.

In a shift from the past tradition, Saturday’s Paddle Dinner was held at CYC.  Both players and non-participants took advantage of the club being open on a Saturday night, and over 50 Members enjoyed the Chef’s delicious food and the convivial atmosphere.

Congratulations go to the 2017 Parsons Cup winners, Evan Smith and Alexandra Gillis.  Peter Parsons and Wendy Ross were runners-up in a nail-biting, three set final where the lead changed hands several times.

In the back draw, Andrew Kallfelz and Tracy Parsons edged out Suma Plowden and Greg Hedberg in a hard fought match with a lot of exciting points.
